mass mobilisations of the public in support of ideas for the betterment of society are called 'manifestations' in French and not 'protest rallies' (common name in english). which is very interesting because if you take the power of language into consideration there is a stronger reason why a 'manifestation' would come into being and why a protest will continue being hard work.
